Analysis of my First Continuity Sequence
Shot 1
The first shot of the sequence is a long take in which a character walks from a mid shot to a long shot, we notice that there is some sort of struggle while the character is opening the door, as this is occurring the audience can notice a mysterious new character approach from the right.
As the two new character manage to open the door we cut to a match on action.Shot 2
The camera is now on the opposite side of the door. One of the characters then places their hands on the others shoulders to which he then responds with a punch to the face.
Shot 3
We then attempt a shot , reverse shot which aims to capture the punch from more than one perspective. There are multiple continuity areas in not only this shot but throughout the entire sequence, including more than one person walking in and out of frame
Shot 4
It then cuts to a long shot of a scuffle in the corridor
Shot 5
That is then followed by a reverse shot of the scuffle
Shot 6
It then jump cuts to a man being pinned against the wall followed by a punch which cuts inbetween the impact and the throw of the punch to indicate the strength of the impact of the punch. After the punch the man backs away and leaves the other man stumbling until he falls over off screen
Shot 7
We then fade in and out to the man laying unconsciously on the floor as he grabbed by the legs and is dragged off screen as it fades to black
There are 9 shots I think Morgan. You need to be more careful. Also you don't "cut to a match on action" as this is a TYPE of cut. You have not discussed the 180 degree rule or the jump cuts. I am a bit disappointed with this.
